J&K: Policeman killed by terrorists in Srinagar; daughter injured
NEW DELHI: Terrorists shot and killed a policeman and also injured his 7-year-old daughter in Srinagar, J&K this afternoon.
The incident took place in the Soura area of the city.
Both were shifted to a hospital where the policeman later succumbed to injuries, while his injured daughter is receiving treatment.
The slain policeman was identified as Saifullah Qadri.
“We pay our rich tributes to the martyr and stand by the family at this critical juncture,” the J&K Police said in a condolence message.
J&K lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha also put out a tweet condenming the incident.
“I strongly condemn the cowardly terror attack in Soura, Srinagar. I assure the people that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished. I salute the martyr Policeman SgCt Saifullah Qadri,” the tweet from the LG’s office said.
Meanwhile police along with security forces busted a terror module of proscribed terrorist outfit JeM in Awantipora and arrested 8 terrorist associates. Incriminating materials including ammunition were recovered from their possession.
